Foster Care

Foster care is temporary care. Foster care is used to provide a safe, nurturing, temporary home for abused and/or neglected children, ages 0-18, who come from all ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. The primary goal of foster care is to provide a safe, nurturing, temporary home for children until they can reunite with their families or achieve permanency through adoption.

Foster Parents

  • May be single or married
  • Must be age 21 or over
  • May be from a variety of economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds
  • Must be in general overall good physical and emotional health
  • Must have adequate income to meet their needs
  • Must have adequate space for privacy
  • Must have the ability to love and let go
  • Must demonstrate an ability to meet the following competencies:
  • protecting and nurturing children
  • meeting developmental needs and addressing developmental delays
  • connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime
  • and working as members of professional teams
