Foster Care
Foster care is temporary care. Foster care is used to provide a safe, nurturing, temporary home for abused and/or neglected children, ages 0-18, who come from all ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. The primary goal of foster care is to provide a safe, nurturing, temporary home for children until they can reunite with their families or achieve permanency through adoption.
Foster Parents
- May be single or married
- Must be age 21 or over
- May be from a variety of economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds
- Must be in general overall good physical and emotional health
- Must have adequate income to meet their needs
- Must have adequate space for privacy
- Must have the ability to love and let go
- Must demonstrate an ability to meet the following competencies:
- protecting and nurturing children
- meeting developmental needs and addressing developmental delays
- connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime
- and working as members of professional teams
